Justification of the Project: Chota-Bakra, a remote village of North 24 Parganas of West Bengal, in the month of April, faced extreme hot weather conditions and unfortunately the only tube-well in the village was out of order. Ladies had to move near about 6Kms to get water and sometimes it took 4/5 hours to get water. They had to suffer tremendously. But due to ignorance and lack of communication skills, there was none in the locality to approach this issue to the concerned authority. During a survey conducted by us in 15 Gram-Panchayats we found that only due to lack of information these people are deprived from basic needs of life. |

Our Objectives: Rural people ought to be aware of their problems and the concerned authority who deals with these problems. He/She must know to lodge complain for the unavailability of basic needs to the officials; they need to be empowered with fundamental information related to their daily life and their basic rights. The Society Development core committee under the direct supervision of ASHA-O-ALO has been working with the local skilled members and has taken up this project for community services. We have supported a broad range of issues including agriculture, general health, community rights awareness, non-formal education, alcoholism, domestic violence, voting rights, women empowerment and other prospective activities under this scheme. |

Our Achievements and the Milestones Ahead: ASHA-O-ALO has set up small groups in villages comprising of well-informed persons. They conduct surveys in their local community to find out the lacking of basic needs such as Clean-Drinking Water, Sanitation Problem, Agricultural Problem, General Health, Community Rights and other types of community based activity and carry out campaign to inform people. This program has received tremendous positive response in villages. Rural people are now aware of the importance of safe drinking water, pollution free environment, teenage marriages, and teenage pregnancy have reduced considerably. They are well informed about voting rights, importance of birth, marriage and death certificate. We are now looking to set up information centers which will provide them information on various issues to serve as an impetus for social change. We are hopeful to change the rural sector into an informed society. Regarding this we require Computers, Internet Facilities, Trainers, Mobile-Vans and some loud speakers. Also we would make office-buildings to make availability of forms and other requisites in nearby areas for easy access. |
