Justification of the Project: “We recognize health as an inalienable human right that every individual can justly claim”,- Dr. Manmohan Singh. This right is being almost completely denied to the poverty-ridden people of Chota Bankra, in North 24Parganas. Here 70% of the new-born(s) are significantly underweight and 60% of the women are anemic. Due to ignorance, unhealthy sanitary practices, scarcity of good drinking water, high consumption of liquor, various water-borne infectious diseases are very common. Inadequate infrastructure , too few physicians, scarcity of drugs has compelled these ignorant folks to turn to superstitious practices in time of illness. Quality health care is a distant dream here. Ignorance about reproductive health ,immunization and family planning only worsen the situation. |

Our Objectives: As an organization, committed to the upliftment of the rural people we believe quality health care should be delivered to these underprivileged people at the earliest. We desire to educate them about safe hygienic sanitation, pre and post natal care, the prevention of waterborne diseases, the effects of bidies .alcohol, problems of teenage mother. We want to eradicate malnutrition totally from this area. By offering routine health check-ups by qualified doctors and counseling the village folks about family planning we desire to make this area a healthier place to live in. |

Our Achievements and the Milestones Ahead: Thanks to the sincere efforts of our volunteers, we have made the local inhabitants health conscious to a great extent. Personal hygiene and safe –sanitation is now being practiced by 50% people here. We have solved the problems of malnutrition and anemia to some extent. In our kaccha (mud made) outdoor medical centre people now receive better treatment by qualified doctors. Pre and post natal care, care for old immunization , preventive measures of infectious waterborne diseases have now been practiced by a sizeable population. We want to set up 50 tube wells in this area to provide clean and safe drinking water to all,100 latrines need to be set up for proper sanitation. We will make this area a safe and healthier living zone. To fight malnutrition we require a constant supply of health food , health drinks and medicines. We need a permanent building for our health-centre, some computers to maintain health data records, an ambulance. A mobile van is required to carry out non-stop campaigns for population control , to generate awareness about AIDS, other diseases and hygienic living. |
